The initiative includes the construction of four new reservoirs and the reconstruction of four existing ones, along with the overhaul and modernization of 115 canals. Among the key components of the project is the reinforcement of the Astana Reservoir.
These efforts will cover nine regions: Akmola, Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkistan, West Kazakhstan, Zhetysu regions, and the city of Astana.
Additionally, the Islamic Development Bank will provide a grant to the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Water Management to conduct a comprehensive study of the country’s water and river basins. The project also includes the implementation of early warning systems for the Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources and the technical modernization of the state enterprise "Kazvodkhoz."
Currently, work is underway to prepare and coordinate all necessary documents with relevant government agencies.
"Despite tight deadlines, the Council has already achieved key agreements. The Islamic Development Bank’s investment will significantly enhance Kazakhstan’s water infrastructure. We also plan to continue active cooperation with UNDP to attract new international partners to support water sector development projects," said Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
